Hello
(Ha)story
Kamaria was born in 1991 in Houston, Texas to first generation city dwellers and college graduates of African American descent. With both sets of grandparents born and raised in the east Texas town, Grapeland, southern African Americana is of great importance to her. A painfully yet boldly shy only child of a physician and an algebra teacher, Kamaria learned to use visual art and writing as a way of expression. She graduated from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts! (HSPVA) in Houston, Texas at 16 years of age in 2008 before leaving for the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) that same year. Kamaria graduated from RISD with a BFA in Painting in 2015 and from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a MFA in Painting and Drawing in 2018. Kamaria currently works between Los Angeles and Houston physically and mentally while mediating between as many mediums as she can manage.
